LOC opened to help earthquake victims

An earthquake of magnitude 7.6 on the Richter scale rocked district Poonch on Oct 08, 2005 at 9.20 a.m. IST. The epicentre was at 34.432°N, 73.537°E in Muzaffarabad in POK. A number of houses, shops, govt. buildings collapsed or were damaged in the tremor. This earthquake was the strongest in over 120 years in the area. Historical building also suffered heavy damage. Poonch is among the worst effected districts in Jammu and Kashmir due to impact of the high magnitude earthquake.
In Poonch ten persons lost their life, 73 persons got injured and 78 cattle heads were killed in the tragedy. Public and private property including historical building of Poonch like Fort building, Sheesh Mahal, Bagh Deody, Moti Mahal, Baldev Mahal. Religious places including Jama Masjid, Masjid Bagialan, Gita Bhawan etc. also got damaged.
