To recover from the devastation due to deadly earthquake, Government  started the relief and rehabilitation work from very first day. Tents, blankets and other material of the immediate need was provided to the people for meeting the emergency need.

 

After meeting the immediate needs of the victims the next target was reconstruction and rehabilitation. Assessment Committees were formed to assess the loss and classify the loss of the houses into two categories viz "Fully damaged" and "Partially damaged". The victims whose houses were fully damaged are entitled for the cash relief of the Rs 1.3 lac whereas  those whose houses were damaged partially are entitled for Rs 30000 only.

 

The relief is provided in installments. Victims whose houses have been damaged partially got relief of Rs 30000 only in single installment. Whereas victims in fully damaged category have been given relief of
Rs 40000 only in first installment, and Rs.30000 only in
2nd installment. Rest amount of the relief is yet to be disbursed in case of fully damaged category.

 

Lok-Adalats under the chairmanship of Principal District and Session Judge, Poonch were also held in district to settle the grievances of the people regarding relief.

 

NGOs also made their contribution to help victims to come up from the sufferings of the calamity.
