I was born in Poonch town in 1960. I am now a practising Architect and based in Mumbai . My maternal grandfather Mr. Daulat Ram Sharma was the Chief Engineer of Poonch who laid down his life in 1947 on way to inspection of the blown up bridge in Chhanjal area. Recently his British style mansion constructed by him before 1947 and located on way to the air strip was destroyed in the earthquake. I have very fond and everlasting memories of the said house and the town of Poonch during my childhood visits on vacations and my last such visit was in 1982. I love all things connected with Poonch. I was very happy to explore this site which is very informative and connects me immediately to the place which I love the most. I would be most happy if you could post more detailed pictures of Poonch town and bazaars to get the feel of the  place as it stands today. I congrat the people who contribute to this site .

Very well done with the website. The information from the 2001 Census is particularly useful for those of doing research on J and K and should be replicated. Wondering if this website could be used as a forum for the divided families of Poonch to find out about and contact their   relatives. Perhaps under a special link such as "cross-border relations". Look
forward to more recent historical information. Was privileged to spend  4 weeks in Poonch - Rajouri area recently, it is truly a underdeveloped treasure and an area of spectacular beauty.

Views Hi.

The territory of Poonch is dotted with a vast chain of scenic and  natural beauty spots amidst flowing streams, gushing springs and flowering plants. The mountain tops over the valley look like circular and rectangular caps. The panorama is really enchanting.
The valley rivals those of Loarn, Gagrin, Mandi, Ajot and poonch City in beauty and boasts of remarkable alpine scenery. It is drained by major rivers the Poonch.
The town is also famous for the beauty sports (Hockey). Almost all the area ice covered with green trees like deodar, pine and oak.

The Dak-bungalow –rest house- which is situated amidst the dense forest ( Gagrin, Loran, Mandi) is 1670 m above sea level.

Dear Sir/Madam,
First of all thanks to every one who so ever contributed the efforts for putting together the web site. After looking into the web site I realized that I should do some thing to help the kids of this area.
I have been having burning desire to open the cost free early childhood education center and give some thing to the future generation to improve their living. I have been in education business and have resources to spare and spend to start the project at the basic level. By doing this the children will have some thing to look for every day in the morning to do and go for it. Any official or body see this request, please feel free to ask any questions and give comments. I assure you that there is no string attached to it.
Sincerely

I think your website of your province is very interesting. It is very well laid out. This is superb for anyone asking me questions because you have answered nearly all the questions! I wish a few European provinces would follow your layout and be as clear about the population details, households/land holdings, farming vs urban etc. Very well done. Now I will really consider if I should visit Poonch as a tourist. Do you have low cost living or living in with families? I am not intersted in expensive hotels. Living in with familes is becoming very popular - it is a little like bed-and- breakfast in England. It makes a little extra money for the family and they meet westerners. English helps but most westerners will have a phrase book (should it be Hindi or Urdu?) if they want to visit your parts. Many thanks and best wishes
